Eating Disorder & Disordered Eating Treatment
At River Pines Counseling, we provide compassionate, evidence-based outpatient treatment for individuals struggling with eating disorders, as well as those experiencing distress around food, eating behaviors, or feeding challenges that are interfering with daily life. Whether you have a diagnosed eating disorder or find yourself struggling with restrictive eating, food avoidance, emotional eating, or preoccupation with food, we are here to help.
We recognize that not all eating concerns are rooted in body image distress. Some individuals experience avoidance of food due to sensory sensitivities, low appetite, fear of eating-related consequences, or a general lack of interest in food, which may indicate conditions such as Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID). Others may have irregular eating patterns, compulsive eating behaviors, or struggles that don’t fit neatly into a single diagnosis, falling under Other Specified Feeding and Eating Disorder (OSFED). Regardless of the specific challenges, our goal is to help clients regain confidence, comfort, and trust in their relationship with food.
Outpatient treatment allows clients to continue their daily routine attending work, school, and engaging in social and family life – while receiving structured therapeutic support. Our approach integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Family-Based Therapy (FBT) to address underlying thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that contribute to disordered eating.
For adolescents and adult individuals, we offer can offer therapy that is grounded in the research from the Family-Based Therapy informed treatment (FBT), a leading, evidence-based approach that actively involves parents or caregivers in the recovery process. Note that we do not offer “Family or Group Therapy”, however we bring this knowledge in as we work with teens, individuals and couples who struggle with family-related issues.
Additionally, we support individuals who may not meet clinical criteria for an eating disorder but still struggle with chronic dieting, compulsive exercise, food avoidance, anxiety around eating, or difficulty maintaining adequate nutrition. These patterns can affect mental and physical health, self-esteem, and overall well-being. Our goal is to help clients identify the root causes of their struggles, build self-compassion, and develop sustainable coping strategies.
Our outpatient services focus on behavioral flexibility with food, relapse prevention, emotion regulation, and fostering a more intuitive, adaptable approach to eating and nourishment. Whether you are stepping down from a higher level of care or seeking guidance for the first time, we create personalized treatment plans that honor your unique experience and goals.
At River Pines Counseling, we are committed to providing a safe, nonjudgmental space where individuals can heal at their own pace. If you or a loved one is struggling with an eating disorder, disordered eating, or feeding challenges, we are here to support you in building a healthier, more fulfilling relationship with food and yourself.
