Art Therapy
During times of stress, crisis, or trauma, anyone at any age can struggle to utilize words to express and process. When words alone are not enough, expressive interventions can assist in treating internal conflicts and issues.
Art therapy is an empirically researched practice and profession that brings together art and psychology. Art therapy uses art media, the creative process, and the resulting artwork as a therapeutic and healing process. Art therapy does not require anyone to “be good at art”. The focus of art therapy is to express and heal using creative means.
Art therapy is highly effective in treating individuals who have been affected by trauma, grief, anxiety, and depression. Art therapy is also beneficial for those who are seeking alternatives to traditional talk-therapy.
“Art therapy helps people express their feelings when words cannot.” — Sarah Deaver, president of the American Art Therapy Association (AATA).
